Did you know that New Zealanders are affectionately referred to as Kiwis? Kiwi is also a fruit and the national bird of New Zealand! No joke, “kiwi” is a very important and much loved word in New Zealand.
Kiwi Craft
To celebrate the national bird we decided to make our own! You will need:
- pipe cleaners
- pom poms
- craft paper
- glue
- googley eyes (optional)

Start by cutting out long skinny triangles for the beak.

Next cut 4 inch pieces of pipe cleaner. Fold it in half to create a V then fold the ends to create feet.

Glue one pom pom to the crease in the V.

Place another pom pom on top of the first.

Followed by the beak and eyes- and a hat in Martin’s case.

And there you have it! 2 Kiwi birds 🙂
Kiwi Fruit
Martin has never had kiwi fruit before. So I showed him the whole fruit and asked him what color he thought it would be on the inside. His guess what white, so we cut it open and he was so surprised by the vibrate green!
As a picky eater it took some convincing but he finally tried it and really enjoyed it! When introducing a new concept, in this case an exotic fruit, it does not need to be elaborate.
Go to your local grocery store, pick out some fruit and have your kids taste it- it will be a culinary adventure and you didn’t even have to turn the oven on 😉
